Elite Trail Racing Splits Reveal The Actual Fitness Floor For Runners

2:08:44 over 24.5 kilometers of alpine scree. That's Elhousine Elazzaoui's winning time at the Salomon Pitz Alpine Glacier Trail — his third Golden Trail World Series victory in four races this season. The Ultra Minute newsletter rounded up another monster weekend of trail racing across continents, and if you're serious about your own prep, the results across Austria, Washington, and beyond tell you exactly where the bar sits.

The Alpine Bar

Elazzaoui set the pace at Pitz Alpine; Mădălina Florea took the women's race in 2:32:16, her second straight series win. Michael Selelo Saoli and Patrick Kipngeno filled out the men's podium; Ruth Gitonga and Naomi Lang followed Florea. Read those splits and stop lying to yourself about your own threshold. Five-fifteen-per-kilometer on alpine terrain isn't a Strava segment. It's a fitness floor built over months of vertical work, not a weekend of heroic selfies. If your training log is full of flat-road tempo runs and a handful of stair climbs, you're not racing these people. You're racing yourself.

Skyrunner Returns Home

Morgan Elliott won Beast of Big Creek in 2:05:27. Eve Pannone took the women's crown in 2:32:50. The Skyrunner World Series landed back in the United States at a venue in Hoodsport, Washington most American trail runners have never heard of, and Elliott — a hometown racer — walked away with his first World Series title. He wrote afterward that he hadn't seen the performance coming, that his body found "another gear." That's not a spiritual breakthrough. That's months of structured work showing up under race-day pressure. José Manuel Quispe and Daniel Antonioli took second and third among the men; Natalie Beadle and Claudia Corral followed Pannone. Quispe lost for the first time after four straight wins. Note that. Even the best get dropped when the field gets deep.

Heavy Context for Heavy Weeks

The same roundup carried weight beyond the podiums. Nirmal Purja and nine other climbers were confirmed dead after an avalanche on Broad Peak, with eight recovered by Sunday. Sophie Grant's reported Via Alpina FKT attempt — 28 days, 17 hours, 59 minutes, averaging 69.6 km and 4,056 m of climbing per day — sits pending verification. Alyssa Amos Clark claimed the women's Mt. Whitney Mountaineers Route FKT at 4:15:47, also pending verification. Samuel Dickie and Mandy Currie won the Canadian Death Race in 13:25:13 and 15:10:05. Cristhian Lagos set a course record at the Near Death Marathon in 3:47:00, taking 11:46 off the previous mark, though that race converts to a 50K next year. Anthony Fagundes and Jennifer Schmidt won the Waldo 100K. William Boffelli and Kim Schreiber topped the Schnalstal ultra podium.

The sport isn't slowing down. Neither should your training block.

Pick one split above that scares you. Build your week around closing that gap. Skip the rest day scrolling; if you need a distraction, go chase strategies for sold-out BTS World Tour 2026 shows instead of doom-scrolling race photos. Then get back to work.
